The idea of an all-powerful, loving creator is a comforting idea, indeed. But, what comes with this is a judgemental being who cares much more about how much love and appreciation is returned and strikes back at those that refuse to agree with him. All these are the attributes of human insecurity. Think about it- “I promise I’ll love you SO much, but I need to know that you’ll love me too… I’ll be SO upset if you don’t.” This is how the love of god is asserted ; it isn’t divine, it is human… it is a reflection of how the ancient people dreamed god would be if he existed.
